In late April, 2016, Lindblad acquired the VIA AUSTRALIS, built in 2005 for Cruceros Australis, to replace the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDEAVOUR, a Lindblad ship for many years, in the Galapagos. After a major renovation, reducing the passenger complement from 136 to 96, the VIA AUSTRALIS will be renamed NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDEAVOUR II and begin cruising in January 2017. The ship will offer interconnecting family units and triple berth and single cabins.
Lindblad will charter the PANORAMA II for Cuba cruises beginning in December 2016 and running through March 2017. Built in 2004, the two-masted motor sailor takes 49 passengers in 25 cabins. The 11-day cruise tours will begin in Havana with a hotel stay then embark in Cienfuegos on the south coast of Cuba for the one-week cruise.
For its expedition sailings in British Columbia and Alaska, the 100-passenger NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC QUEST will begin sailing in June 2017. A second and similar ship will follow in the second quarter of 2018. The pair will replace the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SEA BIRD and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SEA LION.
