Scenic, heretofore exclusively a river cruise line, has developed a plan to place into service the super sleek super yacht — SCENIC ECLIPSE — for expedition cruising under its newly established Ocean Cruising Line. The maiden voyage is scheduled for August 31, 2018, sailing from Istanbul to Venice and thereafter to Antarctica, the Arctic, North and South America, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.

The new ship will take 228 passengers in 114 all-veranda suites beginning at 344 sq. ft. and topping off at a 2,500 sq. ft. two-bedroom Owner’s Penthouse Suite.

Passengers will choose from six dining options — contemporary French cuisine, Pan Asian, Italian, steaks, and al-fresco meals on the Pool Deck and in the Ocean Café Lounge. Amenities include a 5,000 sq. ft. spa, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, plunge pools, and a gym with a separate yoga and Pilates studio.

SCENIC ECLIPSE will operate with zero-speed stabilizer fins, 50% larger than the standard and that work when the ship is stationary. The highest passenger ship ice class rating, Polar Class 6 (Ice Class 1A Super), is shared with only a few other expedition ships when cruising in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Additional equipment includes not one but two helicopters and a seven-seat submarine for underwater sightseeing. More typical activities take place aboard a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks and when using scuba diving and snorkeling equipment.

The ship is being built in Croatia, and the contract includes an option for a second ship, and if taken up, to be delivered in June of 2019.

Scenic’s all-inclusive pricing incorporates all dining venues, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi, shore excursions, a choice of included Scenic Freechoice activities and special events.

Scenic’s current fleet is comprised of 21 river cruise ships plying the rivers of Europe, Russia and Southeast Asia. Detailed itineraries for the SCENIC ECLIPSE will be available in February.
