Shenandoah Furniture is an exceptional kitchen design and construction outfit.
It’s proprietress, Vickie Kelley is a gifted and delightful design and implementation master. No detail is too small for Vickie. She plays really close attention throughout the process, guiding, cajoling, imposing as the kitchen progresses.
Her specialty is kitchens in older homes. Mine was the remodel of a kitchen in a 201 year old stone cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She and her team never blinked despite challenges like 4 black snakes coming out of the wall during demolition, or a crumbling central wall.
The center piece of her kitchens are handmade cabinets from antique, recycled wood. They are exquisite on the outside and perfectly modern and functional in the inside. Mine were made from antique oak with 3 different finishes, honey on the base cabinets, distressed white on the uppers and distressed walnut on a hanging wine rack and lower cabinet. The color combinations really worked, with the white cabinets helping to overcome 7 foot ceilings. Similarly, her wall color suggestions unusual and amazing…..white walls, citron ceiling, pistachio accent walls brighten the place and invite you in.
Vickie has a very talented team but doesn’t impose. I could have used any general contractor I wanted. I chose her guy, Rob. He was wonderful. He communicates well, moves things along, coordinates subs well and made sure even the smallest details were executed perfectly. He kept disruptions to a minimum and even befriended my coonhound. Everyone of the subs was excellent as well from the electrician, floor, plumbing to the tile folk.
One of the most fun things about Vickie is that she enjoys your participation. She made lots of suggestions but also was supportive of my contributions, from the Moroccan tile to the hand-forged hanging lights. Together we made a masterpiece.
