Heroes of A Broken Land: Review
IN Heroes of A Broken Land The player saves and collects anew the world flying into fragments. The game itself seems to have been made according to the same principle: the authors gathered it from fragments of other people’s ideas and different game concepts. The result was ambiguous ..
At the start of each new game, the world is generated randomly, while you yourself determine its size.
With other hands
The tie itself Heroes of A Broken Land Reminds at the same time about “Allods”, “Eador” And Warlock 2. The Order of Immortal Mages for many years ensured prosperity on Earth: for this, sorcerers used the forces of the crystal heart, nucleus and center of the planet. But then something went wrong, the heart was desecrated, magicians turned into crystal statues, and the planet scattered into fragments, which are now drifted in the void.
Clisted magicians are alive and everyone thinks well, but they themselves cannot act. Therefore, they hire the heroes who should explore allods (oh, excuse me, fragments of the destroyed world) and restore each fragment of emptiness – only then the world will reunite in general happiness and harmony.
Scheme, familiar by Age of Wonders and a bunch of other games: there is a powerful magician who, as it were, controls everything, is his assistants, hired heroes who directly fight, explore and gain experience. And in the same way there is a choice of magicians at the start: each is distinguished by bonuses for their mercenaries, increasing their attack, explosion growth, or, for example, a chance to find magical equipment.
Choice strategy
Then everything seems to Fabulous-vegas.uk fit into the scheme of the classic step -by -step strategy. We rebuild our city and explore the global map in search of resources, treasures, fights and adventures. In the city you can build different buildings: a forge to buy and sell weapons;alchemical shop to replenish the supply of potions;the arena where the heroes will train and skill experience;a farm that increases the daily growth of gold; The guild of magicians, offering the sale of the most powerful spells;and so on.
There are always not enough places for development, so you have to carefully choose which building to be built in the designated area. At the same time, each building is allowed to “upgrade” – special crystals are spent on this in addition to gold.
We explore the world, as expected, in step -by -step mode, when traffic glasses are spent, and each move is equal to one game day. On the map, of course, various interesting places are found: dungeons, towers, crystals, chests with treasures, other settlements and cities. Neutral monsters also come across – they can move and even attack your citadel, so there you must definitely build protective towers.
From “Eadora” The authors took a system of random events that put the player before a certain moral choice. For example, they may tell you that the peasants found a treasure. And then you need to decide what to do: take everything yourself or divide with the people. Or two neighboring cities will ask to resolve their dispute. Or residents of the settlement open on the map will ask them to help them cope with the epidemic: ignore, spend a lot of money to solve the problem completely, or cost a small amount for local events? Depending on the choice, your reputation in the world and the attitude of neighbors towards you. And this, in turn, affects the possibility of recruiting new heroes and get different help from neighboring cities.
Heroes of dungeons
You have probably already thought that the battles in Heroes of A Broken Land pass as in Warlock, Age of Wonders And “Eador”. However, this is not so. The authors combined typical step-by-step fantasy strategy with … Dungeon CRAWLER by the first person. The party of heroes is not consists of archers, swordsmen, paladins or military bears, but of 4 – 6 heroes of different classes – these can be a magician, warrior, thief and priest. And their main task is to clean up multi -level dungeons: either at the request of the neighbors, or at their own free will.
The game looks, of course, old -fashioned, but it sounds extremely pleasant and unusual: the battles here pass to sad classical music.
And in the catacombs, everything is like in Wizardry or, for example, in ancient Eye of the Beholder: with the view from the eyes we move through the cells, press the levers, open the doors, look for chests, deactivate traps (if there is a thief) and fight in step -by -step mode with different creatures. Each fighter in the party uses his equipment, skills and spells. Everyone receives experience and new levels, which allows you to “pump” characteristics and sometimes even learn new skills.
All dungeons are distinguished by the level of danger and the number of monsters. Only by stripping them completely, you will receive a really standing reward – a lot of experience, gold, useful equipment and an increase in glory. Uniqueness Heroes of A Broken Land The fact that some catacombs can be passed only if there are several battles of heroes. They enter the dungeon from different sides and help each other to open the doors, activating the levers at different ends of the map. That is why it is so important here to increase the reputation and attract new fighters.
There are not enough details
Such an inter -jacket cocktail in words and in reality looks interesting. But there is one problem: having collected your game from fragments of others, authors Heroes of A Broken Land, By and large, no deeply worked out any of the elements of the gameplay. Powerful magicians here, unlike the same Age of Wonders, do not use global spells and do not develop in any way. There are much fewer interesting places on the global card than in any Heroes of Might & Magic, – Everything, in fact, boils down to the search and cleaning of new dungeons. There are no heroes of other fractions – only neutral monsters.
The catacombs themselves turned out to be too monotonous: the developers are not even trying to dilute wandering along the same corridors with some puzzles and interesting situations. In the best case, we will be asked to find a button that opens the secret door in blurry textures, or go to the portal, throwing the party to a new dark corridor.
Having built the stables, you will increase the speed of the batch movement on the map and even open Fast Travel between your cities.
On the other hand, we will not be too strict to a small independent studio. Within the framework of their capabilities, the authors have done a lot: they implemented a unique combination of a step -by -step strategy and the “dungeon” RPG with a first -person view and came up with an unusual chip with a multi -party passage of some locations. The game, of course, is not enough for the depth and details, but still to break away from Heroes of A Broken Land difficult.
Pros: A curious combination of strategy and role -playing playing a first -person view;Nice musical accompaniment.
Cons: monotonous dungeons;the game is not enough depth.
